Summary of The Day:

We'll be the first group to enter Windsor Castle during the morning.More than 900 years of royal history are waiting for you in Windsor Castle, perched high above the River Thames just outside of London. From William the Conqueror all the way through to our current Queen, successive monarchs have lived here and left their mark on what is now the largest continuously occupied castle in the world. We shall be amongst the first people to enter Windsor Castle, so you can see for yourself the splendor of St. George's chapel and the sumptuous state apartments. Windsor itself is a pretty town full of traditional shops and historic pubs. Shakespeare is said to have written his play The Merry Wives of Windsor in one of them!

Next we'll visit the most famous prehistoric monument in the world: Stonehenge, standing alone in the vast empty tract of Salisbury Plain. Once the site of pagan religion and spiritual worship, its origins date back nearly 5,000 years. What was this vast collection of stones intended for? Was it observatory of the moon, a temple to the sun, or an elaborate cemetery? Who were the people who carried and carved these 40-ton rocks? Come and unlock the secrets for yourself and marvel at this remarkable and mysterious feat of ancient engineering and design.

Afterwards, we'll have lunch in a 14th century pub in Lacock. What better way to enjoy lunch than in a classic country pub? Relax and soak up the charming atmosphere while being served delicious home cooked food. Why not try the fish and chips? Our final stop will be Bath, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bath is a beautiful Georgian city with delightful crescents, terraces and architecture. Following our panoramic tour of the city, there will be time to visit Bath Abbey and Pulteney Bridge overlooking River Avon. You can shop, explore or take afternoon tea in the Pump Rooms while listening to the string quartet.

Summary of The Day: Enjoy a Leeds Castle private tour before the castle opens to the public! Leeds Castle was home to six of England's medieval queens, not to mention the royal residence of Henry VIII. The setting is simply idyllic. The Norman castle built on two small islands in the middle of a lake is surrounded by a vast estate. Our day begins with a private viewing prior to opening. We'll explore the chapel, galleries, courtyards and banquet hall before taking time to enjoy the natural fauna, including wildfowl and black swans. You've heard of the White Cliffs of Dover; now is your chance to see them. Following our scenic drive along the old coastal road, we make a stop in Dover, an historic port with a magnificent 12th-century castle. The ancient city of Canterbury has been the center of Christian worship for almost 1,700 years. Its greatest treasure is the cathedral, infamous as the setting for the brutal murder of Thomas Beckett in 1170. When Henry II snapped "Who will rid me of this turbulent priest?," four of his knights rode to the cathedral and sliced Beckett's head off. Canterbury became the center of one of the most important medieval pilgrimages in Europe, immortalized by Geoffrey Chaucer in The Canterbury Tales. Your ticket includes entrance to the cathedral and also allows some free time to explore the atmospheric old town. Packed with exquisite parks, gardens and architecture, Greenwich has strong connections with the sea, science, and sovereigns. We'll have time to look at Cutty Sark, the fastest sailing ship of its time. We'll cruise the River Thames and as the early evening arrives, we'll gently glide back to the center of London, passing by historic sights such as the Tower of London, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. Tips: This tour will end at Westminster Pier at around 7:00pm.

The greatest writer in the English language and home to the theatres of the world-renowned Royal Shakespeare Company, Stratford is a charming market town set in the heart of rural England. A visit to Shakespeare's Birthplace is included in the tour.

Private tour of Shakespeare’s schoolroom and guildhall Described as 'one of the most atmospheric, magical and important buildings in the whole of Britain,' Shakespeare's Schoolroom and Guildhall opened its doors to the public for the first time in 2016 to mark the 400th anniversary of the writer's death. Step back in time to the 1570's when William Shakespeare was a pupil learning to read and write, and see the room where leading theater companies came to perform – a strong influence on the young playwright. You will be invited to join a private tour before the school opens to the public in the morning, including the chance to take part in a tudor lesson, write with a quill and ink, witness the rare medieval wall paintings, and much more. Enjoy free time for lunch in Stratford-Upon-Avon (own expense).

Warwick Castle

Warwick Castle is, quite simply, the greatest medieval castle in Britain. With a history that dates back over 1,000 years, Warwick Castle will take you back in time, to a world of sumptuous banquets, bloody battles, and royal splendor. Enter over the footbridge and explore the castles ramparts, towers and gardens. Visit the waxwork displays of Madame Tussauds, where you can watch, and hear, the Earl of Warwick's preparations for battle. Or simply stroll through the castle's beautiful gardens.

Oxford

Oxford, the city of dreaming spires, boasts one of the world's greatest - and oldest - universities, as well as some of the finest architecture in Europe. Soak up the atmosphere of this remarkable town with a guided walking tour of the city, or take tea in the shop where the real-life Alice (inspiration for Alice in Wonderland) bought her sweets! Our trip to Oxford promises an unforgettable experience for young and old alike. On the way to the remarkable city we will also enjoy a short drive through the scenic Cotswolds.
